Residential Design
I firmly believe that your surroundings should bring you joy. I have met so many people who tell me they love bold designs, but fear what it might do to the resale value of their home- without any plans to sell! Don't let potential future plans get in the way of today's happiness!

We wanted the play side of this room to be bright and energetic. The colors of the 70s super graphics were inspired by my grandparent's favorite pinball machine.

We wanted an area for the kids to be creative so we painted the walls of this closet with chalkboard paint and used the shelf to house all of our board games.

We also hung a Lego wall so the kids would have a space for it that didn't take up precious floor space in our small home.

My husband asked that we make the movie side quieter, so we painted it a dark blue while adding colorful pillows to match the energy of the game side. The pit sofa and tons of pillows keep it 70s while making movie time cozy! It also serves as a wrestling ring for two very rambunctious kids.

My very first wall mural! The super graphic "comet" shooting into the dark side of the room. I still love the way the shapes and colors meet in this space.

The playfield that was the color inspiration for this room.

The twilight galaxy mural on our eldest's side.

He picked the Gamora poster from Mile High Comics.

A sunset construction site mural on the opposite side inspired by a favorite book: "Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site".

I painted these curtains while very pregnant with our first for the nursery and I love having a piece of his first home in their space.

These plastic drawers are not only inexpensive but really durable, and they fit a lot of clothes, especially little ones.

This room used to be two bedrooms and were combined some time before we bought the house, so we hid the unused door behind a big bookshelf perfect for storing toys, games and loads of kid's books!

This windowsill makes a perfect, personal bookshelf for the oldest, a voracious reader.

We divided the room with a row of bookshelves to create a private sleeping nook.

Dividing the room with bookshelves also helped give us both what we wanted in this space.

The shelves not only house our ever-expanding book collection, but also display some of our favorite curios which lends to the study of my husband's dreams.

Wallpapering the inside of the shelves with botanical wallpaper adds an extra level of interest to our collections.

This area, opposite the shelves and to the right of the back door, leads to a pantry that we turned into our walk-in closet.

It serves as a place for planning and starting our garden every spring and makes a great little reading nook too.

We've had these peacock chairs for some time, and they found a perfect home in this space.

Antique books and a few odd curiosities make this cozy corner feel like a true naturalist's study.

This Victorian style lamp, reproduction crow skull and a few spooky candles give me the goth vibes I was after.

This was the original back door of the house, a few sheets of faux-stained glass film gave us more privacy without the cost of replacing the whole door.

I wanted a place to work in private occasionally, we had this reproduction roll top already painted. I love the way the bright green pops against the deep navy.

I'm a sucker for a gallery wall and the mix of prints make an easy transition from the study side of the room, into my dreamy tropical goth sleeping nook.

The view of the foot of the bed.

While this space is small, I still wanted to pack it with plants to keep it tropical.

This dark, tropical wallpaper was perfect to cover the back of the shelves we used to divide the room. It makes the best backdrop for the bespoke headboard that we made because I couldn't find one in the perfect color.

These gold monkey lamps were a well-worth-it splurge. Just look at them!

One of my favorite pieces, picked up in a Cannon Beach oddities shop.

I thought hanging branches blown down in a recent wind-storm would add to the witchy cottage vibe, Lala painted them and we adorned them with moss.

We painted the entryway black and added mirrors from her collection help reflect the light back into the room.

I created this Spanish moss chandelier fit for a bog witch queen.

She created so many beautiful pieces that we used in this space, I LOVE working with other's art!

I hung 3 pairs of her skateboard shelves in a geometric pattern and painted their edges gold to stand out against the black wall.

I'll admit, I was really intimidated by the thought of tying in these skate-shelves but I love the finished product!

The bench she already had makes a great place for sitting to put on and take of shoes. And it has storage!

We got rid of the heavy drapes and used fishnet fabric to cover the windows. It lets in light but obscures the view from outside.

I covered a floor lamp she already had in black faux-leaves, it reminds me of a crow's nest.

We used more reclaimed, painted branches to hang plants and more of Lala's art pieces in front of the windows.

Because they struggle to get a lot of natural light, Lala didn't want to paint the whole room black so I used the texture on the walls to create this mossy effect with a sage green.

We dressed up this deer with a ring of wooden roses and moss.

Lala wanted a place to display some of her crystals and other small treasures that didn't fit on her altar, this marketplace printer's tray fit the bill and the budget.

I created another shade for this flush mount ceiling fixture with some willow branches. It lets out a lot of light and casts some pretty cool shadows.

We moved this coffin shelf to this spot to allow for better traffic flow out of and into the hallway.

I didn't want this office to slap you in the face with Prince, so I gave a nod to the album art of Purple Rain and When Doves Cry with this floral mural.

I love the combination of stripes and florals, and such a bold mural needed to be anchored. The stripes, while bold themselves, make an easy transition into the plain pink of the rest of the room.

It was important to Kaitlin to buy any needed furniture second hand (which I love), so we found this desk at a local used office furniture store. Everything else was existing furniture, some from her former office and some from other rooms in the house.

This shelf was already in her office and we worried that the red would be too much of a contrast against the pink and purple. I had plans to paint it until we moved it in and I love the way it pops!

Keeping in the spirit of second hand items, I used thrift store records to create original art pieces. I pulled some of my favorite flowers form the mural and painted them onto the center of the records, I love the way they turned out!
